Just signed up to this for a year after procrastinating about it for a while as it seems like a decent app for planning and navigating routes. I am intending to do a trip to the Pyrenees in June on my ride, fing covid allowing. Hope to cross from Irun to Perpignan and have given myself about 12 days to do this, plus travel from London via Dieppe and back. If anyone has done this and have any hints tips and advice would be greatly appreciated, Hopefully attached is the route I have planned so far

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum, your holiday through the pyrenees promises to be a beautiful one, the route you have set up looks promising.
Have you already looked in the RouteXpert library? You can probably find tips for your trip there, and also take a look at Michel's travel story, he went to the pyrenees with Serge last year. -
Hi @paul-phillips-2 Welcome to the forum. You haven't mentioned what satnav device you will be using, I ask this because you have planned your route on the (Default) OpenStreetMap. If you are using MRA Navigation or a Garmin device, it would be better to use the Here map or plan your route on the TomTom map if using a TomTom.
I would also suggest taking a ferry to Spain to start your tour, yes it's more expensive but when you cost in the price of the channel crossing, fuel, wear and tear and probably one night in a hotel, there's not much in it, plus your holiday starts as soon as the ferry docks. The ferry leaves Plymouth about 5pm and arrives in Santander about 2pm the next day.
Where do you propose stopping each night? What are the route point numbers on your route for your overnight stops? Accomodation tends to be cheaper on the Spanish side. -
Hello @paul-phillips-2. Your route looks like it should be very entertaining. I zoomed in on a few waypoints at random and found several that were not placed accurately on the road. Regardless of device or app used, this can cause problems in navigating a route if not corrected. Some of the waypoints checked cause a turn in the opposite direction to that clearly intended, followed by the need for a U turn after a short distance. I recommend you zoom to the maximum into each waypoint on your route and, where necessary, reposition accordingly.
If you do decide to use a map layer other than Open Street Map, as suggested by @Nick-Carthew, it would be best to change that first and then sort out the waypoints. Differences in spatial data between map layers can vary the position of roads enough to leave you back at square one if you don’t do it in that order.
Have a great trip.

@nick-carthew Thanks Nick, think I'm going to be using the MRA Navigation using my mobile bought it with the Myroute app and going to use it for work to get used to it instead of google maps. Was umming and arghing about taking the ferry to Santander but fancy the ride up the South West coast of France as me and the missus were doing this four years ago in the car but had a family emergency in Poland so had to leg it from La Rochelle to Krakow so we never got to finish it so my holiday will start in Dieppe :-). Not booking anything until the afternoon of the day as want to take the journey as it comes and use booking dot com and similar apps, if I finish it or not doesn't matter as done a couple of trips on the scooter before with other people and the worst bit is trying to get to a destination by a certain time/date and you go past stuff but don't have time to explore. Really appreciate the tip about the Spanish side being cheaper as that could be a factor

@pad-0 cheers for noticing that will sort that out, haven't really finalised the Pyrenees part of the journey as was hoping for some input from anyone who had done the journey or parts of it before. Think the run up to Irun from Dieppe has been finalised. Having never used this before if you have a planned route but go off it for some reason is there a way to redirect or does it sort it self out once back on route? I know having done this with google maps it's a bit of a pain if for example a road is closed and you need to divert

@paul-phillips-2 MRA Navigation will automatically skip one shaping point (ballon shape marker) if you miss it and direct you to the next waypoint. If you need to skip more, select edit and choose how many waypoints you need to skip. Via points (hand shaped) will not be automatically skipped.
