Need a way to disable recording of rides
-
As far as I can remember, the recording option is off by default, but this setting is worth checking:
Account -> Navigation settings -> Functional -> Automatically start tracklog for routes
You want it unticked. In terms of Location popup nags, Jörgen is correct - you can't navigate without location being enabled, and that nag isn't related to the tracklog recording.
Same goes the background access - you can run it in the background, voice only, if I recall correctly - like Google Maps.

No - as stated the nag has no impact on navigation. If you do not allow Location when the app is not in use, you can still navigate when the app is on use.
-
If you do not enable tracking - we do not track.
Background permissions are required for a better navigation experience. Voice prompts for example will continue when locking the phone. Als when switching between apps, the navigation doesn’t loose track of where you are -

There is really no need to keep showingthis

Maybe you know more about Android than me. But if an app is not visible, it is running in the background. In Android only one app can be really active.
When you do not allow MRA to run in the background it losses GPS fix every time another app is coming in front of it.
Some phone brands use a really agressive app killer when an app is pushed to the background. This causes problems for some apps. Like the ones which required a constant GPS fix.My question to you.
What are you afraid off?
Is it that MRA always could track your position? Even when the app is not running? -

Android is multitasking and many apps can be 'active' at once (i.e. in the foreground / using the screen). Apps with a user interface used to take the whole screen, and for many people that still appears to be true day to day - you use for phone for one thing at a time, right?
However, since 2016 (Android 7) Android has supported multiple windows, but it's an unusual use case since small phones screens aren't conducive to multitasking!

Quite simply, we do not want to keep being nagged for something we will never use... And there is often a second pop-up message after the first, if you 'cancel' the first...
Seriously damn annoying.

@Eugene7 On opening a route (with location disabled), mine just informs me that 'Location service is not found', rather than nagging, which is accurate, and minimal:
And my settings:
Maybe someone (Corjan?) can describe the differences between what you're experiencing to what I see?

@Eugene7
If that is the whole problem.
Enable it and the nagging is gone.Enable it is not the same as always automatic creating a tracklog. This is a second function.

It is NOT having Location that is the issue.
I have location enabled, so routing works.
The issue is the nags requesting Notification access and background access to location - when the app is closed.Screenshot_20240507_142628.jpg
And
Seriously - stop the nags!

@Eugene7, Notifications are used to inform you about the progress of downloading offline maps. Just enable it, and stop nagging about it

On the phones we use for SatNavs we never have any notifications enabled - ever.
Just stop the nags, as they are totally unnecessary, and allow users to make their own choices.. -

I must admit that at MRA we are very much allowing users to make their own choices. More so than at any other platform. This results in us focussing entirely on community request while trying to keep the platform / ecosystem comprehensible for all.
In all honestly @Eugene7 you are starting to "get on some tits" as a dear friend of mine uses as expression. Please keep your tone modest and accept that MRA is not sygic. We will take all requests into consideration but you are starting to cross a line where it's simply resulting in more frustration than contribution
Some other people often also use a tone we don't tolerate. Rest assured that those are also informed.
