announcement of the distances
-
I drove a short round today (about 100 km). The navigation worked well.
Only the German announcement of the distances was faulty:
Instead of
"Folgen die dem Verlauf der Straße für 3 Kilometer".
was
"Folgen die dem Verlauf der Straße für homographstart 3 homographend Kilometer"
announced.
I did not understand the word "homographxxx" exactly, maybe it is a little different. It seems that the language engine is supplied with literals that are not necessary.
My two cents.... -
@Mopetenpit funny! @Jörgen mentioned this too here: https://forum.myrouteapp.com/topic/2993/strange-word-in-german-voice-command but also told us the issue had been solved.
We however have no influence here and this seems something to do with either HERE or your phone.
Maybe you can help each other / share some info in this thread -
Very interesting, I was not the only one "Gott sei dank".
I have a iPhone X with iOS 16...
It went away with the second last update.
Which version of MRA Next are you using @Mopetenpit ? -

Since "homograph" is a linguistic term, I think it is really plausible to assume it's coming from or has to do with the speech synthesis engin.
-
Did a short test drive with my two iPhones today:
- iPhone 13 pro with iOS 16.3.1 (="Business-iPhone")
- iPhone 7 Plus with iOS 15.7.4 (="MRA-iPhone" for the motorbike).
It's unbelievable, the iPhone 13 generates the correct announcement, the iPhone 7 generates the wrong (as described above) announcement.
Has anyone else - apart from Jörgen - noticed such behaviour...? -
@Mopetenpit it might very well be an issue with the speech synthesis (OS based, as @Con-Hennekens also mentioned) and that it was solved in newer (current) iOS version
-
@Corjan-Meijerink Yes, something like that will be the reason.
-
@Corjan-Meijerink, Is the speech synthesis left to OS? I had not thought of that. I assumed it was embedded in the app itself.
-
@Con-Hennekens said in announcement of the distances:
Since "homograph" is a linguistic term, I think it is really plausible to assume it's coming from or has to do with the speech synthesis engin.
@Jörgen was the problem fixed after an iOS update or after an MRA update?
-
Yes, was gone after MRA Update.
https://forum.myrouteapp.com/post/21136
It is really strange that it is still there, with latest version (I believe you are up-to-date). I have no idea what this change triggers. May be deinstall and try a new installation.
My iOS is 16,3,1 on iPhone X.
-
Now it's even better...
Since the last MRA update, the announcements from the iPhone 13 are also contaminated with "HomographStart" and "HomographEnd"! Except for Jörgen's entries, messages on this topic do not appear here. Am I the only one with this problem at the moment? It's actually unimaginable... -
@Mopetenpit There seems to be a bug in Apple's Text To Speech (TTS) functionality as of iOS 15.6, specific to the German language. All apps that use TTS have the same issue, it's not related to MRA. This thread over on the Apple forums offers some work-arounds that may help.

@Herko-ter-Horst
Many thanks for info! I'll find out more about it... -
@Herko-ter-Horst, Good find!
-
Very interesting, that this is an iOS bug. I would like to know why the problem is gone after an iOS update. I am not sure which update it was, but I have now 16.3.1
-
@Jörgen Maybe they fixed it in that update?
-
The "homograph" problem is not fixed for me, but I have a workaround: the iPhone (is only responsible for navigation) is now configured as an English iPhone. I receive the announcements in English and everything fits. Side effect: my English skills are refreshed...

-
fyi: on the subject of "homograph": I downloaded the beta of TomTom Go Ride onto my iPhone. Here, too, I get the "homograph announcement"...
-
@Mopetenpit Great - this really rules out any MRA related issue
