@Con-Hennekens doing a little research here is what I found on MRA and the second pic down where the icon is off the route and in the lake is exactly what I am seeing on a regular basis.....And apparently others are too!!

@D-Griffin, Yes I know, but that was many versions ago, and the reason I asked for your version number 😉

The radio itself has no GPS built into it and is doing no navigating.

I have been looking up your device:
    https://motorcycleaudio.com/collections/harley-davidson-headunits/products/v2-headunit
and I learned that actually it DOES have built in GPS, and it DOES offer native Navigation through IGO Primo.

What I would like to know is whether the MRA app also veers off while navigating without this Android Auto connection. I bet it does not 😉 My Ford Sync3 has a very similar problem, which I mitigated like this:

Go into your Android Settings, apps, all apps, search for Android Auto, Permissions, Locations, deby location permissions to Android Auto. If you do this, the MRA app will fall back to the phone its location.

Please report back. I am very interested in your findings!

I am just an enthusiastic MRA user, and hope you will be one too!

Out of interest, if one was to turn off location permissions in AA then surely MRA could not run in offline mode, or could it??

@richard-3v, I don't see the link. Those are separate things. Offline or online, the Locations Service will fall back to the Phones GPS. GPS reception works independently from Cell network, or internet availability.

@Con-Hennekens Con the igo maps only use GPS when activated. yes ut has its own Nav on the radio, however not when i am using the MRA app. at that point the GPS on the radio is off and not in use. Yes I still have the veering off route issue if i don't use my radio. i have a local route near Lake Erie that goes off route everytime i go. ot will put the icon out in Lake Erie. i have been on this rpute many times on my bike and my truck. truck has no NAV or anything in it. so at that point im using jist my phone and it still goeas off course.

@Con-Hennekens OK Con I "Dont allow" location permissions. I have the bike out in my driveway and this is the first time the MRA arrow icon is even close to my home! Normally the arrow icon shows my 2-3 miles away from my home. So maybe we are on to something here. Hope to try it out tonight...Will report back...

@D-Griffin I don't think it will affect the truck navigation since the phone AA app is not involved. As for Goggle Maps, I suspect it overrides the setting and uses the phone GPS rather than the AA GPS. Cheers!

@Con-Hennekens Ok went on a short ride which I will attach to this post if you want to look at it. This is a ride I go on a lot good hotdog place at the end of the route! Every time I go, my icon wanders, I always shrugged this off as I'm so close to Lake Erie I thought that was why. Today I left, as soon as I fired up the bike screen came up and I clicked on the ride. It almost immediately found me and told me how far to go to make my next turn on to Lloyd rd. Right off the bat, this thing has never found me this close to my home! I always place my start of route miles away from my home due to that reason. So I went down and followed the on screen directions. In the past I always veer off route between waypoints 1&2 and always between #3&4. At this point I'm usually so aggravated I just ignore the screen and follow the roads I already know. Today the route was followed with no issues at all. I even made a few turns to pull it off route, It almost immediately tried to re route me and get me back to my route. I also noticed on the ride the "footages" to the next turn were really pretty accurate. They never have been in the past! Today I was at a light waiting to turn, told me 45 feet so i rolled up a little, changed to 40 feet. Since I started using MRA it never has been this accurate. So here is a copy of my short route...
                              https://www.myrouteapp.com/route/open/12235993
@Con-Hennekens I want to thank you for being patient and working with me. I'm not 100% ready to put the "fixed" stamp on it yet! Few more trips and we will see. In a nut shell, can you break down what we did by turning off the locations to android auto? What is this making my phone do or not do? I am just curious because down the road If I have any issues Id like to know if this is what is affecting any issue I have. Also should this app be able to "hold a route" like Google maps does, regardless of twist and turns? Also will I still get the real time updates on my MRA? I hope we hit on something here and we have this thing working as it should! We will be out this weekend so I will give it an all day test. When you are out riding, do you have issues with it veering off route? Thank you again for your help, you are the man!!!!!

                                Exactly that 😉

@D-Griffin, Glad to hear things improved by this much! To me this is "proof" that your AA device indeed does have a GPS chipset, that gets used when connected through Android Auto, and it does not function properly. Just like I suspected.

What my "trick" does is merely prohibit the Android Auto app on your phone from using the GPS chipset built into your AA device. As a result, the Location Service on your phone falls back to using the phone's GPS chipset. This can always be reversed without problem, and yes, it will have effect on Google Maps to but you will likely not notice that.

The reason Google maps did not suffer from the same problem as the MRA app, probably lies in a workaround implemented in gMaps (and some other apps) that identifies problematic hardware and makes the choice to use the phone's hardware instead of the AA device's built-in one automatically. That's just an assumption though.

So, it is not really "fixed", but "worked around" and it enables you to use the app normally just like in my case. In my own case the problem was a little different. My AA GPS would not deliver correct speed information. From another case (also a Ford Sync system) I even heard of it driving backwards. The GPS stream literally was reversed... Isn't technology a beautiful thing? 🤣

I am just an enthusiastic MRA user, and hope you will be one too!

@Con-Hennekens Thanks so much, I do have 1 more question. I noticed Sunday as well as yesterday on my ride, while navigating the buttons that recenter the route and also allow you to zoom in and out on the route were very difficult to see. Normally i believe they have been white and very easy to locate and navigate thru. Is this another setting on my phone? or is this in the MRA settings? Now these buttons are very hard to see, almost blacked out when I'm in full day light. This pics was taken in my garage at 5:00 a.m. so "night" mode is probably on, even when night mode shuts off these buttons are still very dark...Thanks again!

@D-Griffin, Yes, in night-mode the theme goes dark. In day-mode it depends on your MRA-App Setting. From the start screen, tap the profile icon top-right, choose Ap-Theme from the list. There you have three choices, you can force the light theme here. Personally I prefer lowering the brightness of the light theme at night indeed.
