In-app Routeplanner requires location unnecessarily
-
Beta v4.2.0 (318) Apple
Bug:
You can't plan a route in the new in-app routeplanner unless you switch on location. It says 'Location service not found' in red, and the planner doesn't open.Where I am right now is of no relevance to the planning process.
(The orginal Route Lab link doesn't have this limitation, so it's a step backwards, especially when I don't normally have location enabled day to day unless I'm riding.)

hi
sorry, not sure what you mean here, i am having a play with the new update
i have my phone on airplane mode, offline nav enabled and i can plan a route from any start point. to any end point and add as many waypoints as i need
but if i want to save it, i have to be online, but this has already been statedmaybe i am missing something early days yet
-
@paul69 I don't think airplane mode makes any difference in GPS reception (it's just receiving information, not sending anything).

@Herko-ter-Horst
Correct! Location is about privacy, airplane mode is about connectivity. -
Ahh! ok i stand corrected, I always have location enabled, not really concerned about privacy, don't have much to hide, I never really use MRA while online, all navigation etc is offline mode for me.
but having said that, this new planner will come in very handy while sat in the hotel planning a new route for the next day, coz the weather has changed dramatically, so my phone would then have to be connected to wifi.
but thanks for the info regarding location.
