route shortcut or different starting point

Maybe this has been asked before. I frequently get in the situation where I want to or need to shortcut of a part of the route. Every current navigation device on the market can't help you much. Either you have to do it yourself. Or you need to stop the current route, start a new one and restart to orignal route once you are back on track (way to much work).
What I would like: when there is a route active and I want a shortcut. I wan to be able to define a route from my current location via a couple of waypoints back to the active route. The device should define a route roughly through all the waypoints. From the last new waypoint calculated the shortest way back to the active route.
For me it is important to consider this: most of the time you are somewhere on the side of the road with a couple of people. You do not want to stop. You have a small screen and not allot of time. They extra waypoints should be considered as a rough direction and you do not really want to visit them exaclty.
