Navigating a route with several vehicles
-
I am organising a social weekend away with a group of approximately 30 vehicles(cars). I have planned a route using my route app. but would appreciate suggestions as to how to present the route instructions. Most will not be using electronic navigation equipment so basic printed instructions would be best.
Thank you

Open the route, click on "Save as", then choose ".pdf"
The pdf file will be saved in your download folder

@Hans-van-de-Ven-MRA-Master While the map and list of waypoints in the PDF are somewhat useful, sadly, the instructions are not, as far as I'm concerned.
The main thing missing is the distance to the next instruction.
So you get:
- Turn left onto X
- Turn right onto Y
Without knowing the distance between X and Y (could be 200m, could be 2km, could be 20km), this is not helpful.
What I usually do, is load the route into Garmin Basecamp and print the navigation instructions from there (print to PDF). Those instructions do include distances.

@Herko-ter-Horst I completely agree with you! The route instructions in the PDF are subpar. But before we address this, I would rather see us enhance the app with various features that have been suggested in this forum.
-
@Herko-ter-Horst, I actually DO get distances. As well in the waypoint list as in the instructions.
Only thing missing is distance totalisation. But I really HATE roadbooks and I never use them anyway. It's the most dangerous method of navigation, especially on a motorcycle.

@Con-Hennekens If you haven't been in the scouts before, it can be difficult for most of us to determine where the wind directions lead you... "go west..."
-
@Rob-Verhoeff, I have not been in the scouts but I know something about cardinal directions. The problem with roadbooks is that there is no backup if you missed a turn. The trip becomes a total guessing game. something that makes traffic dangerous for yourself and others.

That's not so bad.
This device is still widely used in car- and motorcycle rides by people who enjoy vintage fun. -
@Jack-van-Tilburg I know these things… not save at all, but yeah, very vintage! The only safe way to read a roadbook is in the hands of a co-driver sitting next to you in a car.

@Con-Hennekens Interesting. I have English set as the language in my profile and the PDF's I save are in English as well. While I do get distances in the list of waypoints, I don't get distances in the navigation instructions at all.

@Herko-ter-Horst, That's interesting indeed... That can't be the intention.
I guess someone needs to call in a ticket.
