Crash when not using the app?
-
I got a pop-up today saying that MyRoute-app had crashed. However, the app wasn't even running, as far as I could see. I certainly wasn't using it and there definitely was no route loaded or anything like that. So now I'm wondering how that is possible. What is MyRoute-app doing in the background when I've not instructed it to do anything? I did give MRA permission to run in the background. However, I expected that to mean it could run when the app is active, but doesn't have focus (i.e. when using a different app at the same time, making a call, or stuff like that), I didn't expect it to mean it could do stuff when there's no visible indication of the app running at all. I'm in the habit of "hard-closing" (i.e. swipe up from the app switcher) any apps I'm not actively using.
A thing that I'm now wondering could be related, is that the phone (a few hours before the crash occurred) had gotten so hot it dimmed the display, which is the first time I've ever noticed that behaviour. Now I had been driving with a different navigation app and the sun hitting the display for quite a while at that time, so I just chalked it up to that. But now I'm wondering if MRA has been running stuff in the background that contributed to the heat building up.
I've uninstalled the app for now. I can live with a beta-app crashing while I'm using it, but I don't need crashes from an app I'm not using at the time.
(This is on the latest iOS/iPhone SE 2020)
If MRA Navigation Next is indeed running stuff in the background when the app is not active at all (i.e. not visible in the app switcher), it needs to stop doing that.

@Herko-ter-Horst was CarPlay connected by any chance? This causes the app to boot in the background.

@Corjan-Meijerink Yes, CarPlay was connected. Don't quite understand why that should cause an app I'm not using to start, but at least it's a partial explanation and something that can hopefully be fixed in a future release.

@Herko-ter-Horst definitely CarPlay then! Well you’d want to be able to see the map on CarPlay so the minimum requirements to use the app are started. All CarPlay apps do this. Try closing Google Maps on your phone and connecting CarPlay. You’ll suddenly see Google Maps working on CarPlay but your phone will tell it’s closed
