The reason for this is, that Sena Intercom headsets are able to do audio multitasking by overlay both audio sources. But this only works, if you have multiple devices, and one uses A2DP and one HFP. Garmin does this with using HFP. Kurviger App and Locus both also implemented such option to enable.

The scenario here is for example: Device 1 paired as Smartphone is your regular daily devices for phone and music (for example), while Device 2 is a Smartphone with MRA used only for navigation. If one devices uses HFP and other A2DP, the device outputing with A2DP will be lowered in audio level and HFP audio source will be overlayed played (you can her both audio streams simultaneously). If both devices use A2DP, then the first device will be silenced as long the second device plays its audio and no audio multitasking overlay happens. This is a hard limitation in Sena Intercom headsets.

Based on https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=6242.0, this doesn't look hard to implement?

You mean Intercom with passengers? Did you enabled Multitasking Audio via Sena app? You need to do it, as its disabled per default.

I use my iPhone as my main phone and as Device 1 in the Sena.
The tablet with MRA is paired with the Sena as Phone 2.
So far, this works very well. MRA works, and so do other functions on the tablet.
However, when I establish a Bluetooth connection with my passengers, I no longer receive navigation instructions.
In the Sena group, I’ve been advised to pair the tablet as a navigation device. That might then work with this overlay as well.
I haven’t tried that yet.
I don’t yet know how this would affect a mesh connection either.
